Formal education at undergraduate level
Objectives
Tourism Faculty's Tourism Management Department educates tourism management candidates who is knowledgeable and has the ability to use this knowledge (defining, evaluating, interpreting, analyzing and solving problems) on conceptual and practical management skills and sub-branches of hospitality management on advanced level and who possesses special characteristics such as; taking responsibility, working independently, using advanced information technology, speaking a foreign language at least on B1 level, establishing healthy communication and relationship with stakeholders, continuously improving him/herself, closely following tourism-related local, national and international developments, trends and innovations, having sufficient awareness on social rights, justice and cultural values, acting in accordance with social, cultural, scientific and ethical values and being sensitive to the problems of society.
Key Learning Programme Outcomes
Understand the basic concepts of management and tourism management. Have knowledge and skills to manage a business in the tourism sector. Explain the local, national and international dimensions of tourism and tourism management. Recognize the strategic, tactical and operational dimensions of management in tourism enterprises. Be able to use the information technology tools at a level required by the tourism sector. Explain the impacts of tourism industry on social, cultural and physical environment. Have both spoken and written communication skills at least in one foreign language (level B1). Able to have the necessary academic knowledge and skills in the field of tourism. Have the necessary technical knowledge/skills in the field of tourism management. Have the necessary intellectual and cultural knowledge in the field of tourism.
Graduation Requirements
To accomplish all the courses (which are totally 240 ECTS), their weighted grade point average must be at least 60 over 100
Transition to the Higher Level
Graduate students can register to master's and doctoral program if they get enough score from Academic Personnel And Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and prove their English language knowledge.
Employment Opportunities for the Alumni
Graduates of this program can work in businesses operating within the tourism industry such as, hotels, travel agencies, transportation companies, food and beverage companies, yacht-marina companies, and entertainment businesses at operational and managerial level. They can also plan their career in other areas of the service sector such as banking, insurance, hospital management, and retail businesses. In addition, they can be a government employee if they get required score from Public Personnel Selection Exam (KPSS). In addition, they can work in vocational schools as an instructor if they fulfill the conditions in the regulations.
