Aims



To train tourist guides who are knowledgeable about Turkey's natural, historical and cultural attractions, who respect ethical values, who have interpretation, communication and service delivery skills, who can turn tourists' visits into a real experience beyond what is written in the tour program, and to follow and adapt to innovations in the professional field.



Objectives



To provide the sector with tourist guides who can obtain a Professional Tourist Guide license in different languages with the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who will convey the rich Anatolian cultural and natural heritage, which shapes the world history, to the visitors in the best way. To conduct scientific research in the field of Tourism and Tourist Guidance. To help and pioneer the spread of tourism awareness, culture and nature conservation and hospitality in the society. 


History
Tourism Faculty continues its activities under the name established by the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Journal dated 10.01.2012 numbered 28169. Departments of Tourism Management, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Guidance were established within the faculty. Tourism guidance department began training in the fall semester of the 2015-2016 academic year.
Qualification Awarded
Bachelor degree in Tourism Guidance is given.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a high school or equivalent degree and required score from University Student Selection Exam. Applicants must have a required score from Lenguage-1 exam. Optional English preparatory class must be applied. It is obligatory to fulfill the requirement of participating in a total of 45 days training trip which will be organized in three different parts of 15 days in the summer period of the second, third and fourth grades. It is mandatory for students to begin to save training trip fees from the first semester.
Higher Grade Transition
Graduate students can register to master's and doctoral program if they get enough points from Academic Staff And Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and prove their English language knowledge.
Graduation Requirements
To accomplish all the courses (which are totally 240 ECTS), their weighted grade point average must be 60 over 100.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the program can serve as national tourist guides in parallel with the training they have received. They can be employed in the relevant areas within the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. They can serve as promotional guides in private museums. They are qualified to work in all departments of travel agencies as employees and managers. They can be employed as ground service officers at airports. They can work in airline companies' operations and ticket sales departments. Those who get a required score from the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) can also be employed as civil servants in other public institutions. 8. in addition,
Assessment and Grading
Measurement and evaluation types for all courses have been defined in “Course Teaching Plan” accordance with the shape of Mersin University Undergraduate Teaching and Examination Regulations.
