Students must comply with the legal and academic requirements to access the studies in The Mersin University according to the process established by the ÖSYM

| Recognition of Prior Learning |
The students who study at Mersin University may be exempt from some courses according to certain regulations. They may be exempt from the courses if the application is in time and
the content is approved by the administrative board of the related vocational school/faculty/institute. |
| Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
Recognition of prior learning process is an early stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Therefore, recognition of prior learning process is not fully initialized in all programs of Mersin University.
However, an exemption exam is held at the beginning of every academic semester for English found in training plans of programs. Students who are considering that they provide expected learning
outcomes from this course have the rights to enter the examinations. Successful students who are exempt from the related courses. |
| Profile of the Programme |
In the undergraduate education program, the information on ancient Greek and Roman architecture, sculpture and pottery along with the other small archaeological objects takes place.
Unlike many other archaeological department, both Latin and ancient Greek is offered all through 4 years of education. In addition to the historical, political, social conditions and philosophy of the ancient ages;
Protohistory, early Christian and Byzantine archaeology are offered in the program. Beside providing a good standard of education, possibilities of gaining practice by working in excavations or museums are encouraged.
The importance of foreign languages in keeping up with scientific publications of archaeology or getting into contact with scholars as being part of an Erasmus programme are continuously debated with our students. |
| Occupational Profiles of Graduates |
| The graduates are appointed to work as archeologists in the museums or at the Ministry of Culture providing that they get the required score in Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS). |
| Access to Further Studies |
The student has to be successful in the exam known as Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) , has to prove satisfactory knowledge in English, German or French, has to be successful
in the exam undertaken by the lecturers of the department for further studies. |

The department of Archaeology was founded in 1992 and started education in1997. Each lecturer in the department has been transferred in relation with the current education program
in addition to the basic information they are able to provide specific knowledge that is required by the students. As well as the theoretical information provided by the program,
students receive practical experience or may join many archaeological expedition-tours organized by the department. Also, lectures given by the department members or
invited scholars provide a new vision in archaeology to the young students. The lecturers of the department lead researches in the Cilician region and besides , they have organized
many symposia on Cilicia; furthermore they have been publishing the internationally indexed periodical of OLBA since 1998 |
