About Programme
|
Faculty of Pharmacy carries out a modern education plan based on EU norms to train students with high qualifications who can represent their country around the world with creativity, positive thinking, hard work, participation and productivity. Graduates can take administrative and technical responsibility in all the areas of pharmacy profession, from the manufacturing to consumption, including all the steps as obtaining pharmaceutical and raw materials; physical, chemical, biological, and toxicological analysis of pharmaceutical substances and products; qualification and quantification of drugs; assurance, control and standardization of quality; distribution and presentation of drug to the patients; usage, monitoring, and inspection of drugs. Furthermore, it provides opportunity to take core and elective courses that will help students gain information and skills to be able to work in the areas of science, technology, research, and development. In addition, it trains students to generate and use scientific data for postgraduate education and to become the pharmacists with scientific & professional ethics, creativity, and researching abilities. The elective courses offered by our faculty and the graduation projects prepared by our students make the graduates of Faculty of Pharmacy principled in occupational issues and efficient in multidisciplinary studies.
Graduates of Faculty of Pharmacy are employed at the departments of manufacturing, business development, pharmacovigilance, registration, research & development, and quality control as a managing director and/or manager in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Those specialized in Radiopharmacy can work at TAE (Turkish Atom Institute), TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific & Technical Research Institute) and radiotherapy center. After being specialized in the area of biotechnology, graduates of Faculty of Pharmacy find job opportunities in the fields of biotechnological product (pharmaceutical, biomaterial, and diagnostic products) manufacturing and characterization at institutions such as TUBITAK MAM (Turkish Scientific & Technical Research Institute, Marmara Research Center). Furthermore, they have the right to study for postgraduate degree and subsequently, work as specialists in forensic toxicology at Forensic Medicine Institutes. In addition, they can find jobs at the departments of registration and licensure for pharmaceuticals for human, veterinary and biotechnological medicine, cosmetics products and medical devices; bioavailability and bioequivalence studies; preparation of biosafety protocols; and inspection at Ministry of Health. Graduates can also work as community pharmacists. Also, there are work opportunities for pharmacy graduates as clinical pharmacists at hospitals. Moreover, graduates of this program have job opportunity to work as pharmacists at government institutions after obtaining the required grade point from KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam). In addition to all, they can be qualified to work as academicians and study for postgraduate degree upon obtaining the satisfactory grade from GRE (ALES) and YÖKDİL/YDS (University Language Exam/Public Personnel Language Exam).

History

The Faculty of Pharmacy was founded subject to 30th additional article of Act 2890 published in the Official Gazette on 13 July 2000 with the decision of Council of Ministers subject to 2000/854 Act No dated 2 June 2000. The faculty started its education in 2001-2002 Academic year with 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 4 assistant professors and 1 research assistant.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates who have completed the program successfully are given undergraduate diplomas with a degree in "Pharmacy".

Admission Requirements
Turkish citizen students are registered in the MEU Faculty of Pharmacy by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) according to their scores in the national university exam (YGS). Foreign students are registered to our Faculty according to the conditions and quotas determined in the "MEU Application, Admission and Registration Directive on the Admission of Students from Abroad to Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programmes".

Higher Grade Transition
Mersin University Faculty of Pharmacy graduates take part in as community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacist, responsible manager in charge of cosmetics and drug stores; He also takes part in all areas such as synthesis, R&D, purchasing and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. They pursue an academic career by studying in postgraduate programmes.

Graduation Requirements
“MEU Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations" are taken as basis;
The student is graduated providing a total of 300 AKTS credits, fulfilling all the obligations related to the programme and having a grade point average of at least 60.00 and he is entitled to receive a diploma.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

They can work as clinical, community, and hospital pharmacists, academician and work in various areas within the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry, including production, R&D, and regulatory affairs. Also specialties such as biotechnology and radiopharmacy.
